I like to paint people and I like to paint landscapes. Even better a combination. Painting on site is quickest and most exciting, not least because the models move! Last year I spent a sunny afternoon on the beach at Robin Hood´s Bay, painting several pieces including "Reflections".

Biography
During the past few years Yorshire artist Sue Atkinson has gained a devoted following for her quirky, acutely observed paintings of people going about their daily business. Her animated beach scenes with children engaged in the simple pleasures of sand and ice cream are always enthusiastically received. The exhibition includes an array of rainscapes and snowscapes which feature a welter of human activity. Sue´s affection for people and her native Yorkshire shine through in this fine selection of her latest work.
Sue Atkinson paints both in her studio at Wakefield on the beach at Runswick Bay. She is a member of the Leeds Fine Art Club and the Fylingdales Group of Artists. In 1999 Sue won the accolade of South Yorkshire Artist of the Year and in 2000 was the winner of the Manchester Academy Small Picture Award. In 1999 she was awarded joint first prize at the Hull Ferens Open Exhibition. She has also won awards in the Discerning Eye Exhibition, London, the Laing Landscape Prize, and at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the New English Arts Club, the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Singer and Friedlander Sunday Times Watercolour Competition.
